THE BABCOCK READING ROOM GETS NEW FURNITURE
-
A donation from the Applewild School in Fichburg, Massachusetts in appreciation of Lynne Rawling for her many years of dedication as Head of the Upper School and Assistant Head was turned into child size pine tables and chairs for the childrens reading area recently. The Haynes Library has benefited before from the generosity of the students of Applewild School who arranged a large donation and shipping of childrens books after damage from flooding in Hurricane Floyd (1999). Lynne and Alex Rawling have now made their permanent home in Eleuthera and Lynne advises the Friends of the Library committee and has headed successful membership drives. The Haynes Library would like to thank the Rawling family and Applewild School for their generosity and support of the library project.
BOOK DONATION BY THE DRUMMOND FAMILY AND LAKE HIGHLAND PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Friends of the Library are very grateful to the Drummond Family for their recent efforts to bring childrens books to the Haynes Library. Glen and Alma Drummond are long time residents of Governors Harbour and have always been great supporters of the Haynes Library. Their grandchildren attend Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida. Thanks to Janie Drummond (Glen and Almas daughter-in-law) who approached the librarian at Lake Highland, who mentioned it to a teacher, who told another ..The end result was several plane loads of books collected by students and teachers at Lake Highland. These books were delivered to the Haynes Library by Glen and his son, Dan a big thank you to them for arranging the shipping. Books suitable for the childrens and young adult section are now shelved and being read by the young people who visit the library. Other books of a more educational nature have been distributed to schools in Eleuthera. Some will go to new libraries such as Palmetto Point Public Library and Hatchet Bay Primary School Library. Thanks to everyone involved, especially: The Drummond family, Lake Highland Preparatory School, Orlando, Florida. www.lhps.org , Debbie DeLoach, Principal, Lower School; Holly Comer, Lower School Librarian; Judy Walker and Leslie Cherry, LHPS Girl Scouts of Orlando
BOB PATTERSON LEADS SUMMER PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN AT THE HAYNES LIBRARY
Fifteen students aged 11 to 14 attended a 3 day Summer Programme at the Haynes Library on June 29th to July 1st. Bob Patterson of Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center in Dania Beach, Florida lectured on Eleutheras Living Ocean and then accompanied the students on a field trip each day to study what they had learnt. Feedback from students shows that they now have a greater respect for sea life and coral and have gained some basic knowledge to better explore life at the beaches and seashore. On completion of the programme students were presented with a 6 x 9 waterproof fishwatchers field guide and their own personal cd of the programme.
Bob is a part-time resident of Governors Harbour and a regular contributor to the marine biology reference section at the Haynes Library. Look out for the lecture series this winter as Bob is set to give a more in depth talk about the marine life around Eleuthera based on his masters dissertation at Nova Southeastern University.
